FRIDAY FAVORITES: VINTAGE HOME DECOR

Here are my top 5 favorite vintage home decor items currently in my home. Check out where I sourced them, how much I paid, and how I style them in my own home for that cozy-eclectic style that I love so much.

VINTAGE HOME DECOR FAVORITES

So I’ve decided to do a spin on “Friday Favorites” by publishing a post every other Friday with a new theme. Sometimes it will be vintage-related, and other times it will focus on my favorite products, decorating, or entertaining tips. I may even branch out into other things, like lifestyle favorites.

So here we go with the first post: Vintage Home Decor!

Vintage items are sprinkled throughout my house because:

  1. I love old stuff
  2. I love good deals
  3. I love the eclectic vibe you get by mixing old and new
  4. It’s just my style

Here are my current top five favorite vintage home decor items in my home…

1. VINTAGE AFTABA PITCHER

What is an aftaba pitcher, you ask? It’s a metal or ceramic pitcher with a long spout, used for handwashing. They were common in Middle Eastern countries, hence the Middle Eastern patterns and etchings you may see on many aftaba pitchers.

I’ve purchased several smaller ones over the years but this one is huge! It stands over two feet tall and is very sturdy. I love the metal detail around the body and the natural patina. It currently stands on my mantle to provide height and interest to my vintage vignette while also staying well out of reach from the kiddos.

Purchase price? $28 from a local vintage shop.

2. ALABASTER HORSE HEAD BOOKENDS

This set of alabaster bookends is one of many that I use on the wall-to-wall shelves in my home office. They are very heavy and have a snow-white-translucent look, similar to marble. The blocky angles give the horse heads a shape that reminds me of a Trojan horse.

They currently block off the “classics” section in my home library.

Purchase price? Around $40 on eBay, and I thought that was a steal compared to other prices I’d seen.

3. MEDIEVAL-THEMED CANDLESTICKS

These are so fun! I’m borderline obsessed with the art and history of Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance periods, so I couldn’t pass up these vintage wooden candlesticks depicting scenes in a pre-romanesque style.

They aren’t antique, but they look straight out of the Dark Ages! They are also part of my current fireplace mantle decor, but I’ll swap them out in the spring for a more bright and more airy look.

I found them at my favorite local vintage shop, Foxhole in the Grove, and paid around $20 for the set.

4. CHIPPY BARNWOOD LETTER

Barnwood has become a hot commodity since the chippy farmhouse style has gained even more popularity. Luckily, Kentucky is tobacco barn-central and authentic barn wood products can be found easily by local vendors for a reasonable price.

This “W” is part of a wall collage in my dining room. I love the chippy red paint that pops against my dark walls.

Purchase price? Around $20 from a local vendor.

5. VINTAGE LANDSCAPE PRINT

Last but not least is this landscape print in a simple wooden frame. I knew as soon as I saw this print that I’d buy it because of the calming green hues and water scene. It’s also part of my dining room wall collage.

This was a find in an antique shop, and I bargained my way to an $18 purchase price.

So that wraps up my top vintage home decor items in my home. I can’t wait for another “Friday Favorites” post – I think this will be a great series within the blog!
