SPRING DECOR IDEAS FOR YOUR FIREPLACE

What does it take to create a simple spring vignette for your fireplace mantle? Check out these 3 key spring decor ideas that will give your home a fresh, spring vibe!

SPRING IS HERE…. SORT OF

Spring is so close I can smell it!

Like literally, I can smell it.  Any of you who live in the country or suburbs know what I’m talking about… you step outside one day in late February and to your surprise, a warm front has moved in.  You take a deep breath and notice that the air has changed from that clean smell of ice and snow to a crisp, sweet scent reminiscent of early buttercups blooms and green onion blossoms.

The days are just a bit longer.  The wind isn’t quite so bitter. The grass is barely a shade greener and the birds are starting to show back up.

Yes, these are the earliest hints of spring, but they’re there.

And I’m here for it!

Sure, it’s still February, and being that I’m in Kentucky, we’ll likely have another round of snow or even a blackberry winter, but I’m hopeful that warmer days are in my near future.

So naturally, I pulled out my spring decorations a little early!

First up on my spring decor list was the fireplace mantle. With a crawling baby and adventurous toddler in the house, I’ve had to say goodbye to my normal decorations.  My mantle is one of the only kid-safe places in the house where I can still display whatever I want – including glass, without fear of the kiddos getting into it.

Here are 3 key elements for creating a spring fireplace mantle, tablescape, or vignette– no matter your budget or home decor style…

1. SPRING DECOR IDEAS: FLORALS

Nothing compares to the beauty of springtime flowers after a long, dark winter.  Faux hydrangeas and magnolias are full and bulky, so they filled my wide vase perfectly.  Cherry blossom sprays spread out enough to layer up and over the mirror, creating height and depth.

Bonus points if you use real flowers in your decorations – fresh or dried!  I’ll have plenty of access to hydrangeas, peonies, roses, and irises later this spring and summer.

2. SPRING DECOR IDEAS: ANIMALS & OUTDOORS

Springtime is all about new life and celebrating the living things around us, so I love to add animals to my springtime decor.

Now don’t go crazy and bring out the whole farm for display – a couple of items will do!

My picks? This highland cow canvas art and galvanized horse weathervane.

3. SPRING DECOR: COLOR

By, color, I don’t mean that your spring decorations have to look like the Easter Bunny threw up in your living room.  BUT, if you’re into bubblegum pink, the neon-ist of yellows, and every shade of teal, this is your season to rock it!

I like to choose about 2-3 colors that fit my theme and balance the rest with neutrals.  This keeps my vignette from looking like a rainbow but also provides more interest than an ultra-neutral spread.

For this mantle, I chose sage green and blue.  Both are “spring” colors without being so loud that they wouldn’t blend well with my other living room decor.

I’m usually on board with dark and moody decorations (did you see my Gothic Halloween fireplace?) but went for a fresh modern farmhouse feel this time.  I swapped my normal vintage dark wood mirror for this metal distressed mirror and tried to add more neutrals as I styled, like with the distressed metal pail, lantern, and wooden bead garland.

I hope you can incorporate these elements into your spring decorations!
